The average household uses 1500 single use plastic bags annually. Our bags will make 690 trips to store and are available to all for free.
1.2 Million land and sea creatures are killed annually by Single use grocery bags.
1 out of 3 Leather back turtles(larges living turtle) have grocery bags in their stomachs.
Plastic bags start out as fossil fuels and end up as deadly waste in landfills and the ocean. Birds often mistake shredded plastic bags for food, filling their stomachs with toxic debris. For hungry sea turtles, it's nearly impossible to distinguish between jellyfish and floating plastic shopping bags, in addition studies now show that the plastic in seawater also smells like food.
Fish eat thousands of tons of plastic a year, transferring it up the food chain to bigger fish and marine mammals.
We too are consuming these toxic chemicals as are our children and their children.
EVERYONE...all of us helped to create these terrible statistics and environmental catastrophes , it is up to all of us to turn this around.
REEFHUGGERS.ORG was formed to raise this awareness through not only social media but by also working together with local businesses and Chambers of Commerce to donate thousands of recycled, reusable bags funded solely by donation and sales of REEFHUGGERS.ORG merchandise. Every item purchased on this site comes with a free reusable bag as seen below. You can also divide your in cart total by 2 and that is how many bags your purchase contributed by donation to education and awareness.
